Thought Leadership Opportunities

Take advantage of the exclusive opportunity to contribute to the science-sharing happening at the conference. Secure your place as a market leader or introduce new products or technologies through in-person address or recorded message, branded signage, subject-specific workshops, Tech Sessions, and more. These sponsorship options allow your organization to both support and contribute to the collaboration and knowledge sharing happening at the Meeting.

  • Plenary Session Sponsorship –  $10,000/per session
These are our most exclusive opportunities. There are only three events where you can highlight your organization during one of the AFS Plenary Sessions. Sponsors are invited to run a short video (~2 minutes) or make brief remarks and will address the event’s largest audience. These programs are designed to be educational, celebratory, and focused. Many of our conference days are kicked off with a lively and well-attended Plenary Session. No other programming is scheduled against the Plenary Sessions. Benefits of Silver sponsors.
  • Scientific Symposium –  $2,500/per symposium
A full listing of approved scientific symposia will be available on the meeting website. These opportunities are an excellent way to support specific topics or interest areas to your organization and the individuals showcasing their science. Benefits of Patron sponsors.
  • Tech Session – $2,000 (+ any food and A/V)
These are unique events in a dedicated meeting room where organizations can showcase their products and newest technologies. Tech Sessions can be promoted in the meeting program or as invite-only options. These sessions are ideal for informational lunch-and-learns or demonstrations. These events are not the same as “Tech Talks” which occur in the Exhibit Hall area. Benefits of Contributor sponsors.
  • Workshops/Panel Discussions –  $1,500/per workshop
These events are specialized sessions on pressing and current topics that allow you to reach a very specific audience. Benefits of Contributor sponsors.

Building AFS Community Opportunities

Support creating a welcoming and safe space where Indigenous individuals feel empowered to participate and share their thoughts, ideas, and Indigenous knowledge thus enriching the AFS community. Build a scientific community that is inclusive in thought and impact, respecting the history of the Hawaiian Islands and supporting local businesses while giving back to the community. Facilitate the sharing of knowledge and understanding among diverse groups involved in fisheries, aligning with the AFS Strategic Plan and broader societal trends towards inclusivity in research, particularly with Indigenous peoples. Fostering an environment that values Indigenous Knowledge on equal footing with scientific knowledge and ensuring representation of all cultures and organizations with management responsibilities in discussions of larger issues.

  • Indigenous Attendee Travel Support – $3,300 (seeking at least 15)
Travel funds will alleviate existing challenges for at least 15 Indigenous attendees to participate in AFS annual meetings. Funds will cover airfare, hotel, and registration (which we estimate to cost ~$3,300 per person). These funds will be awarded through a travel grant application process.
  • Indigenous Networking Event – $5,000 (seeking at least 1)
This event will provide an opportunity for Indigenous conference attendees to share a meal and build community in a focused space.
  • Native Hawaiian Community Tables – $500 (seeking at least 5)
Support free participation for Native Hawaiian and local community-based organizations to host tables in a special section of the tradeshow.
  • Indigenous Knowledge Scientific Symposium$2,500/per symposium (seeking at least 4)
A full listing of approved scientific symposia will be available on the meeting website. These opportunities are an excellent way to support specific topics or interest areas to your organization and the individuals showcasing their science.
  • Service Learning Trips $5,000 (seeking at least 6)
These trips provide opportunities for AFS attendees to mālama (care for) Hawaiʻi and learn about its unique socioecological history. Potential service trips include invasive plant removal, working a loʻi (taro field), beach clean-up, etc.

Please support as you are able. Some of these programs will rely on available funding, so we ask that you notify us by May 15th with if you wish to contribute to one of these AFS community opportunities. We welcome donations of any size earmarked for the above line items, which can be made through the AFS website or with your Annual Meeting registration. Please note which initiative you would like to contribute to when submitting your donation.
